"Bigger And Better!"

Farmer Dell would like to thank Everyone who came and saw us last year at the pumpkin patch. We certainly enjoyed getting to see every smiling face that came out. We are thrilled to announce that Farmer Dell is back this year (2009) and bigger and better. We have increased the size of the corn maze for a much more challenging adventure and night walks. We have extended our pumpkin variety to include some novelty pumpkins like the Ghost and Giant pumpkins. We have also added more excited farm activities that include a bigger hay bale section to climb on, bigger corn trough for more space to play in and some other really exciting activities that are in the final construction phases. Again this year we will have the hay ride for a relaxing ride around the farm. We are so anxious to see you this year, please come out and make some memories with us!

Facebook | ShareThis Fall has definitely arrived and the colder air is coming quickly. With the chill of the air come new activities that are fun for all. October is especially exciting with Halloween being a big event for some. With Halloween comes pumpkins, an now Auburn and surrounding cities will have a new place to find the perfect pumpkin. The Farmer in the Dell, a pumpkin patch, has now opened in the Auburn area.

Farmer in the Dell is a pumpkin patch started by Mark Foshee and his younger brother Luke. They wanted to have a new place for Auburn families and students to come and enjoy the fall weather and the month of October. Farmer in the Dell also hosts schools for field trips. These trips are available upon reservation. Farmer in the Dell is a place filled with fun activities for all ages. They offer a two acre pumpkin patch, 15 minute hayrides, a two acre corn maze, and other fun farm games.

While this year is just their first year in business, the Foshee’s hope to make Farmer in the Dell a new Auburn tradition. They also hope to add a few more activities for later years. They are looking at making the corn maze haunted next year for the Halloween loving crowds. This year, they will be holding some night hayrides and a dark corn maze on October 30 and 31.

Farmer in the Dell was opened on September 28 after years of hard work and preparation. The Foshee’s came up with the idea of a pumpkin patch after watch a popular television show on TLC. They found some land to work on, planned out their idea, and finally began working this year. The pumpkins had to be grown from seed so their manual work began back in July.

Mark Foshee is a horticulture student at Auburn University so the hard work required to make a crop successful was nothing new to him. His studies have prepared him enough to make the pumpkins and corn grow in an almost impossible climate. Pumpkins are especially hard to grow in Alabama so a lot of watering and fertilizing was necessary to make these pumpkins available to the public. He had to fertilize twice a week with one fertilizer and three times a week with another. An irrigation system was installed to ensure the pumpkins and corn were getting enough water. He also had to constantly keep an eye out for diseases on the plants and control those before they ruined the crop.

Admission into Farmer in the Dell is only $5. This includes a hayride and the corn maze. Pumpkins are a little extra costing only $0.50 a pound. They are open Monday through Friday 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Saturdays 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Farmer in the Dell will be closing for the season on November 1. They are located off of Highway 14 on Beehive Road about four miles after turning on Highway 14 from Donahue Drive. Signs are placed on the main road to direct cars in the right direction.
